Interpretation of temperament test results.

To give you an idea of the scale. A score of _____ typically indicates a puppy who reacted _____ to that specific exercise.

1 - Assertive, dominant tendencies, confident, outgoing. Mostly lower numbers requires stronger consistent leadership. Good for very active working homes with an experienced handler.

3 - Easy going, stable, responsive. Mostly mid numbers is ideal for a pet/family home with an average handler.

6 - Dependent, cautious, submissive tendencies. Mostly higher numbers require more contact and assurance and guidance from their handler. Requires lots of positive exposure to new situations, and an owner who is calm and patient.

Recovery (general observation) - The puppy is separated from the litter in new surroundings.
Pack Drive - The evaluator calls the puppy to them in an open, friendly manner.
Following - The evaluator confidently walks away from the puppy.
Restraint- The evaluator holds the puppy on their back and see how hard they struggle.
Touch Sensitivity - The tester locates the webbing of one of the puppy's front paws and presses it lightly between his index finger and thumb.
Sound Sensitivity - A loud bang is introduced in another part of the room.
Retrieving - A ball is rolled or thrown across the floor of the room.
Prey Drive - A rag and ball is introduced and the puppy is encouraged to engage in play.
Stability - The evaluator opens an umbrella and sets it on the ground and watches how fast the puppy recovers and investigates.
Food Drive - The evaluator holds food in their loosly closed hand.
Focus - Food is shown to the puppy and placed under a container on the ground.
Energy Level - A determination of the puppy's overall energy level throughout the evaluation.
